Ms. Sophia Kacsuk was born in 1978 in Budapest, Hungary. She studied at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and received her summa cum laude M.Sc. degree in Physics in 2002.

She started her patent attorney candidate practice right after university graduation. She passed her Hungarian patent attorney examination with distinction in 2005, and passed the European Qualifying Examination in 2008. After seven years of practice in Hungary's largest patent firms she started her private practice in 2009. Besides working Ms. Kacsuk currently studies general law at the Károli Gáspár University of Budapest.

In her childhood Ms. Kacsuk spent several years in England and in Austria helping her to obtain an excellent command of both languages. Beside English and German she also speaks fluent French, which she had the opportunity to further improve during a one-month European patent attorney training period at Hirsch & Partners patent and trademark attorneys in Paris.

Ms. Kacsuk is a member of the Hungarian Chamber of Patent Attorneys and the Hungarian Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright, the Hungarian Trademark Association, the European Patent Institute (epi), and the Association of Intellectual Property Experts (VPP).

Mr. Laszlo Bretz graduated in 1975 from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of Technical University of Budapest in the field of Automation and Mechanisation, where he wrote his thesis titled "Heart-controlled patient-monitoring system". After this he worked for three years at the Computer Process Control Department of the Institute of Electrical Automation (Hungary) as computer system developer.

His intellectual property career started in 1978 at the National Office of Invention of Hungary, where he worked as a patent examiner at the Department of Electronic Industry for five years. In 1983 he absolved the Post-Graduate Industrial Property Course and in the same year he was registered as Hungarian patent attorney. From 1986 he worked as a patent attorney in the ADVOPATENT Patent Bureau.

In 1994 he was asked to lead the Audit Department of the National Office of Invention of Hungary and to coordinate the tasks of Hungary stemming from the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) thus representing his country at the World Intellectual Property Organisation. Also in 1994, in parallel with his promotion to Deputy Head of Department he was assigned the Trademark Department as well, which he supervised for two years.

From 2000 he was the Head of the Office Management Department for Technical Affairs of the Hungarian Patent Office (Hungarian Intellectual Property Office). He participated in the preparations relating to Hungary's joining of the European Patent Convention after which he represented Hungary at the Budget and Finance Committee meetings of the EPC until his retirement in 2010.

At the request of Springer International Publisher he wrote the Hungarian adaptation of the industrial property section of the well-known Hütte: "Engineering Manual". He has been elected officer in various positions at the Hungarian Chamber of Patent Attorneys and at the Hungarian group of AIPPI for many years. He has been active participant of the two year long English tutor-training course organised for patent attorneys by the EPA/ CEIPI; he is permanent lecturer of the international industrial property systems at the Post-Graduate Industrial Property Course. He is a member of the Hungarian Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright as well as of the Hungarian Trademark Association.
